2:13 PM @eid_yara Today is Daniah’s first birthday. Daniah will grow up without her father for the rest of her life. My boss and close friend @roshdi.sarraj was killed in his home as he was having breakfast with his family on 22nd of October. Today Daniah turns 1 without her father and this is what my friend @shrouqaila wrote about her husband and her daughter..
« Habibi Roshdi,
Exactly one year ago today, you were holding my hand, comforting me during labor. Having you by my side made it so much easier. We chose the name Dania for our daughter, which means "close" in Arabic, so she would forever remain close to our hearts.
Today marks her first birthday, and we had planned a grand celebration, envisioning the memories we would create for her.
Habibi, it has been two weeks since you were tragically killed while eating breakfast together, and I still hold onto the hope that you will be here to help her blow out her first candle.
I am devastated by the idea of how she will remain "close" to Daddy's heart without remembering his face. She is far too young to be orphaned, and I am far too young to be a widow. You were too young to lose your life simply for being a journalist.
Never forgive,
Yours. »
My heart is bleeding for Daniah and Shorouq. My heart is crying for all of the Palestinian children who were robbed from their parents, who will never be able to make memories with them again. Roshdi and Shorouq used to send me frequent pictures of Daniah as I wasn’t in Gaza when she was born. I went and visited her every time I went back… I’ve lost my father when I was 22 and it was the hardest most painful loss of my life… I can’t even imagine what Daniah will feel .. growing up with no memories of her father! This world failed Daniah and failed all of us. I’m so sorry Habibti you don’t deserve this. Daniah will not have her first birthday, and Daniah is scared and terrified and constantly crying because of the sound of bombs. Daniah is a baby, her little mind cannot even comprehend what is happening around her… I can’t even call Shorouq and be there for her in this horrific time. Daniah will grow up and we will tell her all about Roshdi. We will never forgive or forget
