As many of us put up decorations, make our meals, and prepare for this month, please remember that although there is a ceasefire in Gaza, people still are living on the streets in the cold because no rebuilding has been allowed yet. No materials are entering, no caravans or mobile homes, nothing. The airstrikes have stopped in Gaza but there hasn’t been a lifting of the blockade or any sort of physical and material change on the ground in terms of people’s living conditions. There are children who are dying from the cold temperatures, and it is Gaza’s second Ramadan under such conditions. Many corporations like Shein, Temu, Walmart etc (& influencers partnering with them) will push their unethically produced products in your face this Ramadan, so try to buy from small businesses, make your own decorations from simple materials, and focus on spending time and energy with your community this month rather than falling for consumerism.
